What makes dictators?

kids

There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who lead and those who are led. I like to associate with guys who are leaders, but I recognize the need for having sycophants in this world who need to be told what to do, or else you wouldn't have the uneven division of the pie that makes a few of us rich, and leaves the rest... well, breathing.

In my experience, given the choice, most people would rather be followers than leaders. It's easier, lazier, and less complicated than taking charge, being responsible and having pressure on your shoulders. That is how the World is built. Just go to any major city and you'll instantly see that the distribution of power and wealth is in the hands of a few who took the risks necessary to succeed, usually in the mansions of opulent suburbs.

The real question is: how do you get into the 1% of the population that leads? That's easy. First you have to be a real man. Any loser can be a follower, it takes a real man to lead. Second, lead like a dictator.

Now, I'm not talking about any communist crap or being like some Third World arrogant idiot whose only power is his machine gun arsenal. I'm talking about being a leader who follows the rules and mottos of a dictator, and who is in complete and total control of his surroundings.

A dictator is an absolute ruler. He has the final say. His word is the law. What a position to be in, right? Well you can easily do the same, without letting your minions even realize that you are a dictator. That's easier said than done of course, but possible if you only exert your power when you have to.

Of course, before you can become a dictator, you have to be in a position where you have full control of your surroundings. In the mob it's easy; there is a hierarchy that guarantees your power (at least over the guys under you). In the business world, you can't be a dictator without having some power in your company as owner, vice president, head chef, etc. But if you get in that position, you can't imagine how much you could get done, without any of the diplomatic BS others put up with.

Dictators usually come to be when there is a situation that calls for someone to take decisive and complete control. Sometimes it's a country, sometimes it's a business that is going down the drain, sometimes it's a sports team that lacks discipline or motivation.

Dictators don't just pop out of a birthday cake, they are made when they have the guts to make the tough decisions nobody else dares to. If there is a void of leadership and everyone is looking for a saviour in an unpleasant situation, people will put up with the harsh medicine of giving up control to one person in order to turn things around.

Of course, some dictators just force themselves into a situation. If you want to become a dictator when there is no need for one, you will need to flex your muscles -- both your mental and physical ones. You will need a couple of guys around you that are absolutely loyal to you and will support you no matter what. This is crucial when you want to establish yourself. You must always have lieutenants that follow your every order, even if they hold power themselves, because it sends a message to everyone else that you are in control.

Most dictators will also play off the weaknesses of their followers. They are like psychologists that can make you cry because they know your sore spots, and can rally you because they know you need their approval. You want to become a ruthless dictator? Read about Machiavelli and learn how to toy with people's emotions. You want to become a dictator who's subdued? Use your common sense, and keep your poison and power in check until you need it.

Now, here's the number one thing you have to remember if you decide to become the Mussolini of your purchasing department:stalin

A bad dictator has complete control of his situation, everyone fears him, yet no one respects him.

A good dictator has complete control of his situation, everyone fears him and respects him.

Okay, so now you realize that 1% of the population controls everything (and unless you still believe in the Easter Bunny, you should have known that already), dictators come to power as a result of the need for someone to take full control of a situation, and that this Machiavelli guy is talked about everywhere.

Good then, we got a nice overview of being a dictator. Watch your backs and keep your noses clean.
