If a house was a body then the kitchen would be the heart. The kitchen is where the food to sustain you is cooked. For me, the kitchen is on top of my list though for those that know me personally might be wondering where all the food that I eat goes to. Well, it goes to a room I’ll be spotlighting in the next edition but for now it’s the kitchen.
Up until the mid nineties kitchens were generally uncomfortable and unattractive, but before then kitchens were often seen as the domain of the servant girls - maids – so how it was furnished did not seem too important.Today, however, the lady of the house is the chief cook and the kitchen has become the heart and centre or family living. This is also where the modern woman can show off to her mates’ part of her house, so can the modern man because nowadays men like me are into cooking.
These are the things to consider when decorating your kitchen; flooring and countertop materials to choose from; cabinet placement and for the icing on the cake then consider having a second worktop with a sink in the middle. Charm and efficiency are now the main goals of a kitchen. In a new or remodelled home, more care and planning are lavished on the kitchen than on almost any other room.The kitchen in the picture shows an oak wooden finish, a light shade of tiles and neutral tone of paint colour to reflect more light. The cooking space is relatively compact but not crowded. You can’t but smile if you’re in this kitchen but if you’re like me then your mind is already on what’s in the oven. Good planning means organizing your major appliances on one side for the cooks’ convenience. The more time you spend in the kitchen, the more important it is to decorate it with colours that season your own soul. The kitchen has now been changed from where a woman / housewife has to be to where she wants to be.

Welcome once again to Lifestyle interior. This time, I’m taking you through that amazing room you visit every morning and evening – the bathroom.
The days when a bathroom was bleak, cold and unimaginable are gone. Although bathrooms were found in early Egyptian palaces it was the Romans with their customary genius for organization and love of luxury who developed not only the technique of bathing but also the planning of bath buildings to a degree before unknown. Nowadays, bathrooms have given way to excitingly colourful, convenient and glamorous settings.
Your choice of fixtures and other bathroom necessities depends a great deal on your plans for tenure. Bathroom remodelling is a wise investment. It adds to the value of your home. Whenever you decide to sell, a prospective buyer will always admire an attractive bathroom.
The floor plan of a bathroom should use flooring materials that are both practical and beautiful . Select those that require little cleaning and are indifferent to moisture . For luxury and that feel of being surrounded by beauty , consider a big rug for the tiled floor . The list of materials that are suitable for decorating bathroom walls and ceilings is so extensive that it is well to evaluate each one carefully before you make your choice .
Marble , ceramic tile , terrazzo tile or quarry tile are wall materials I’ve dealt with associated with the luxury class . Less expensive materials include mirrored walls , vinyl products that simulate marble or tile , and plastic – finished or laminated hardboards.
Wallpaper is a good choice for bathroom walls and ceilings too. Very rarely would you paper an entire bathroom . If you have tile part way up , the walls and around the tub and shower , you then might paper from the tile to ceiling ; perhaps use the same pattern on the ceiling , too . Many wallpapers are washable , pre-pasted and strippable , so you have two in one - the decorative and the practical .
