HEALTH TIPS
Lifestyle and environmental health contribute to around 75% of factors that lead to premature death therefore, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is every individuals concern.  Though we think we live in a healthy environment, we still need to concern ourselves with our personal health and care and develop a balanced lifestyle. Balance is the operative word as both neglect and excess in various factors can bring problems in every area of life. Below is a list of areas to be taken into consideration for one to lead a healthy life.

EXERCISE

  • It’s necessary at all periods of life to develop and maintain a healthy body and mind, and to slow the effects of ageing;
  • Can be incorporated into our daily range of our activities and be part of our family and other group activities.

REST      

  • It’s needed on a regular basis for all the organs and  systems of the body;
  • It reduces the impact of stress and may be taken in short sessions during the day as the opportunity arises, or as part of a fixed schedule of relaxational activity.
  • It can be suited to individual preference.

SULIGHT

  • It aids the formation of vitamin D, through the action of ultraviolet light, which helps to build resistance to disease.
  • Kills harmful body bacteria by direct exposure.

CLEANLINESS
Personal cleanliness is of particular importance.
* CLEANLINESS IN GENERAL prevents build up of body parasites and bacteria by              removing their breeding sites; removes dirt , perspiration and skin debris; protects against the spread of disease.

  • GOOD ORAL HYGIENE protects against diseases of the mouth such as tooth decay and gum diseases and some throat conditions.
  • KEEPING EARS AND EYES clean protects these vital areas from becoming damaged and helps to ensure their prolonged use.
  • CLEAN, WELL FITTING CLOTHES AND SHOES will help the wearer to feel    comfortable as well as preventing the growth of harmful bacteria

A HELTHY MIND AND BODY NOT ONLY LEADS TO A FEELING OF WELL BEING AND HAPPINESS BUT ALSO LEADS TO INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY AND EFFICIENCY FOR THE HOME AND OFFICE.`

DID YOU KNOW?

That if you are a firm with total billings ranging from MK 500, 000 to MK 999,999 you get a 2.5% discount and if your billing ranges from MK 1, 000, 000 and above, you get a 5% discount. As for individuals, family accounts exceeding six (6) lives covered will be entitled to 50% discount in contribution rates for the seventh member (7) and above member.

    MASM HEALTH SCHEMES

There are many benefits one obtains when they become a member of MASM. Everyone regardless of age, creed, or race is entitled to membership. Unlike most medical aid societies that have one package for everybody, MASM has five schemes targeted at different groups namely ECONOPLAN, EXECUTIVE, VIP, SUPER VIP and PLATINUM VIP to give the member a wide choice and flexible cash flow management. In it’s 98th sitting, the Board approved that scheme benefits be enhanced. Listed below are the contributions, corresponding annual limits and permissible institutions offered by the first three schemes.

FAQs
Who can join MASM?
Anyone can join if your employer has agreed and registered to be part  of the scheme. An individual may also join in his/ her own right.

How do I join the scheme?
Complete a membership declaration form and give it to your employer who will send it to MASM. If you’re an individual, send the form with appropriate contribution directly to the Society. You will be required to pay three months contribution in advance before you can benefit from the schemes. Remember to register your dependants on the declaration form.

How do I pay contributions?
MASM has introduced the MASM @   your doorstep facility and all our members both current and prospective can now make payments at any NBS Bank   and there will be no delays in transfer of money as all transactions will be on-line. Contributions are payable to the Society in advance monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or annually.

What about Doctors and Specialists?
Each member must choose a doctor (GP) fro the MASM list of panel doctors. Any emergencies occurring outside of your doctor’s practice should be treated at a registered hospital or clinic. If you see a doctor outside the list for non-emergency treatment, you are solely responsible for payment of the visit and treatment.
If you need to see a Specialist, your doctor must give you a referral letter and a member is limited to three visits to a Specialist per month.
