A pimple is a result of a blockage of the skin’s poles. Pimples are caused by the overproduction of sebum oil which lubricates the skin and hair. Inside the pore are sebaceous glands which produce sebum. When the outer layers of skin shed (as they do continuously), the dead skin cells left behind may become 'glued' together by the sebum. This causes a blockage in the pore, especially when the skin becomes thicker at puberty. The sebaceous glands produce more sebum which builds up behind the blockage, and this sebum harbours various bacteria which causes pimples. Pimples can often be caused by stress. When the skin's pores become clogged with sebum, pimples can form.
The best way to get rid of pimples and acne is to keep your face clean. Bring a pot of water to a boil then turn down the stove to medium or low. While the water is steaming, make a tent over your head to catch the steam around your face. You can use a towel for this. Be careful not to put your face too close to the pot or boiling water
Do this once a week for about ten minutes, then wash your face with a gentle facial wash specially formulated for oily or combination skin. Use an oil free moisturizer. |
